This one has been in the works for a while.
One Saturday over ten years ago, my then-girlfriend, now-wife, got a call from her Dad. Her old bedroom set that her sister was using was being replaced. If she wanted her furniture she needed to come get it.
Soon.
Seeing how it originally came from her Grandfather’s furniture store, she certainly wanted it back. Only one problem. It was 4 hours, one way, to go get it.
Sunday morning came and we were on the road.
The furniture was well-built, and structurally sound. The finish was in pretty bad shape, though.
With good intentions and a lot of ambition, we stripped everything a few weeks later.
And stashed it in the attic.
And moved a few years later.
And stashed it in the attic again.
And left it for a few years more.
We recently decided we need more storage in our bedroom, and my wife reminded me that we still had the dresser.
“Since you’re going to finish the dresser, can you do the nightstand too?” She asks…
I drug them both down from the attic and out to the shop today. After cleaning everything up, I started sanding.
The sanding should be done tomorrow. Both pieces need a few repairs and the brass hardware looks pretty rough. Stain and finishing supplies were all delivered this week.
A couple more weekends, and it should be good as new. I’ll keep you posted.
