I’d love to have enough room for different work areas in my shop. As it is, the shop is too small for more than one workbench.
I prefer the bench top to be clear, so mounting a metal working vise wasn’t an option.
I still need a metal vise from time to time, so here’s my solution.
I dovetailed a couple of oak boards together to make a 90 degree bracket, and bolted my little Wilton vise to the longer of the two boards. The shorter of the two boards gets clamped into the face vise on the bench.
Sometimes, I prefer to work by the double doors on the end of the shop, especially when using an angle grinder or a propane torch. I realized today, the same bracket could be clamped to my 20 lb stake anvil to make a free standing vise.
I love my little shop, but trying to do a lot of different things in a small space means you have to be creative sometimes.
I started a new project today, but it’s not too difficult. I’ll have an update in a few days.
