The List

One of the things I thought I could do with this blog is to use it as a running project list. That’s where the “On the List” category comes from. New ideas and requests get put on the list, and when they’re complete, a post under “Off the List” will document the completed effort. I’ll post an update to the list every few weeks.

The picture is from a small notebook in the shop I use to keep a list of ideas. This isn’t a comprehensive list, nor are they prioritized in any way. Even keeping a list here, I’ll still maintain the notebook, so I can make sketches, and work things out with pencil and paper as I go.

Along with this list of projects, there are things I want to try, practice, and improve my skills.

  • I was given a small anvil for Christmas. I want to try some blacksmithing. I’ve never tried it before, but it looks like fun.
  • I’ve carved a few wooden spoons. Just enough to know there is a lot to learn about green woodwork. Spoons, bowls, who knows what else. Definitely more of this to come.
  • Last Christmas, I tried my hand at block printing. Along with our family Christmas card, everyone got a hand printed card too. Drawing and lettering freehand was challenging, but it was something I really enjoyed.
  • My wife gave me a small CNC router for Christmas. I’m excited to learn what all can be done with it.

In a way, this blog is a bit of a self-improvement project, as I’m hoping to become a better writer and storyteller.

No matter what, learning is always on the list.
